Last week I came across a fantastic article on Hyperalergelic about mapping art movements, which in turn led me to George Maciunas' Fluxus timeline. I'd forgot how much I love his graphic design and typography. Luckily there's a pretty good facsimile version on Amazon of Birth of Fluxus - the ultimate version a fold out pamphlet version of Diagram of Historical Development of Fluxus and Other 4 Dimensional, Aural, Optic, Olfactory, Epithelial and Tactile Art Forms. This version of this fantastic piece was originally issued by Mats B in issue 3 of Kalejdoskop from Sweden (in Lund, where my day job used to be) back in 1979. The diagram is 17.5 x 47 inches when it's unfolded and tiny type.
I first discovered Maciunas via Source Magazine and his work for Fluxus. I love his playfulness and typographic games.
MoMA has a great selection to view online.
